Friends of Hoylake and Meols in Bloom

Village Home Parade Gardens Home Queens Park Home How you can help Contact us

Welcome to the Friends website, our aim is to help make Hoylake and Meols a more beautiful place to live, visit, work, rest and play by planting and caring for the many floral displays in and around our village thus enhancing the environment for everybody to enjoy.

Our latest yearly newsletter is available to read HERE

We also help look after Queens Park. The Friends have created new flower beds, brought back to life neglected ones, planted trees, renovated the play ground, restored the gates. With the HAWK Bowling Club we have renovated the pavilion tea room. All this has resulted in the park being awarded a Green Flag.

We also hold events to promote the park, such as Family Dog Shows, Outdoor Plays, Festival Days and The Big Lunch.

The Parade Gardens have long been neglected. We are limited to what we can do but through grants and donations have successfully restored many areas of the gardens, created a wonderful mosaic with sensory seating. Planted a wild flower area with wall murals duplicating old and new local scenes. We also now have new long, Rose, grass and seaside beds. We also operate a tea kiosk on Sunday afternoons to help fund our gardens projects.

The Friends since 2006 have been providing and maintaining the floral displays throughout Hoylake and Meols.

These include:

15 Flower tubs

16 Roundabout containers

11 Brick planters

These are all planted twice yearly with summer and winter planting then maintained by the Friends volunteers.

Co-op cumminity fund

Thanks to the air cadets of 472 (Hoylake) squadron who help the Friends with the huge job of watering the displays.

They also help out when we run events, always looking smart in their uniforms

Please look around our website to see what we are about. We are a completely self funding charity and if you like what we do in the village and parks please consider becoming a

       Support member

or making a donation towards the planting and care of our village and parks.

How can you help

Picture of the Friends volunteers helping the village smile.

If you would like to go on the Friends volunteer email list and help the village smile, that would be great. It does not mean you are expected to volunteer for everything we do. We all have busy lives, if you can help, great, if not maybe next time.

If gardening is not for you, that’s fine it does not suit everyone. Perhaps you would like to help for a couple of hours in the Parade Gardens tea kiosk or Queens Park tea room.

We also need all kinds of assistance in running events like:-

The Family Fun Dog Show

Garden Party

Festival Day

Big Lunch

All help is very much appreciated.

To coincide with the Hoylake 2014 Open golf competition the Friends held a Themed Floral Golf bag .

Along with support memberships and donations we also hold a fund raising garden party at Dane Cottage. If you have not been before, please come along and support the Friends. There is always a huge bring and buy plant sale, drinks and lovely cakes and a terrific raffle and great music by local artists.

Next  years Garden Party is on Saturday 1st July 2017 at Dane Cottage, 11 Ethelbert Lane, Meols. CH47 5BF.

Thank you to the many local businesses that help our village and parks smile.

This can range from donating cakes for the garden party, supplying raffle prizes,

purchasing play items to donations.
